Michael Sontag, born 1980 in Bavaria, studied fashion design at Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin. He founded his eponymous label in 2009, the year of his graduation.

Sontag sees his process as fluid, softening conventional fashion parameters of seasons, trends, and consumer ages. This fluidity finds material expression in the drapery and layering that distinguish his collections. With a primacy of silk, alongside cotton, wool and cashmere his garments flow and move with the body, drawing inspiration from dance, as much as the lines and rhythms of nature.
