Finalist
KITSCHY COUTURE
KITSCHY COUTURE is a homage to diasporic identity. Founded by Abarna Kugathasan, the label tells the personal story of her transcultural self, a fusion of Sri Lankan roots, Tamil heritage, and Western influences. As the child of Tamil immigrants, Kugathasan explores her own identity and celebrates cultural diversity. The sugar-coated and colorful aesthetic of Kitschy Couture reveals the deep longing of the diaspora and the feeling of homesickness.
The brand emphasizes strong storytelling and merges traditional South Asian craftsmanship with contemporary design. It celebrates heritage while continuing to evolve and reinterpret it, creating a space for dialogue and meaningful representation. Serving as a platform for cultural expression, Kitschy Couture builds bridges and offers an intimate insight into a world often unseen.
