When Gitta Connemann mentioned the position paper of the Coalition for Cultural and Creative Industries in Germany (k3d) on Monday evening, applause erupted in the Alte Münze: She had taken note of the publication that morning and wanted to work to ensure that a suitable framework is created for the cultural and creative industries in Germany, in which they can continue to work successfully and visibly, the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy said, in essence.

In her speech during the congress “Entertaining the Future”, which was organized by KreativBund – Federal Centre for Cultural and Creative Industries in cooperation with k3d and medianet brandenburg, Connemann (CDU) refers to the position “for a future-proof national and European strategy for the cultural and creative industries”, which k3d had published on Monday morning on the occasion of the congress.

The industry alliance k3d, whose founding members include the Fashion Council Germany (FCG) , calls for a “National Comprehensive Strategy” which, in addition to positive regulatory frameworks, requires above all better coordination between the federal and state levels in close cooperation with the European Union: As a key sector for economic dynamism and social resilience, the creative and cultural industries in Germany need suitable structures so that they can sustainably develop their economic, innovative and integrative power in international competition.

Together, the eleven sub-sectors represented in the coalition, which include fashion, the music industry, the book market, the art market, the film industry, the media industry, the performing arts, the design industry, the architecture market, the press market, the advertising market, and the software and games industry, generate €123 billion in gross value added annually, according to the latest cultural and creative industries monitoring report from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. This means the cultural and creative industries contribute 3.3 percent to gross value added – and, contrary to the overall economic trend, grew by over 5 percent in 2023.

“Only through coordinated cooperation between the federal government, the states, Europe, associations and other stakeholders can our economic sector fully realize its potential throughout Germany and Europe – for economic progress, social cohesion and a sustainable future,” said Dr. Florian Drücke, Chairman of the Board of the German Music Industry Association (BVMI), who is also one of the k3d founding members.

Christiane Arp, Chairwoman of the Board of the Fashion Council Germany and invited to a stage discussion at the congress on Monday on behalf of k3d, emphasized the importance of such alliances: “By communicating with other sectors of the creative industries and creating contacts, we want to make companies future-proof and make it clear to them that they are not alone in facing the challenges of our time – this is also written down in the position paper.”

The publication, available on the website of the Coalition for Cultural and Creative Industries in Germany (k3d), concludes : “Together we are stronger – strategically, networked, and future-oriented.” In addition to the central demand for a comprehensive national strategy, the paper also includes proposals for necessary regulatory measures to ensure fair competition and refinancing for the cultural and creative industries.

Founded in 2021, the Coalition for the Cultural and Creative Industries in Germany (k3d) is an open alliance of leading private sector interest groups and sees itself as a competent voice for this key sector, advocating for social and economic change.
