During DER BERLINER SALON, the six young designers from the second year of the FASHION x CRAFT funding program in partnership with the Swarovski Foundation and The King's Foundation will present their designs in a joint final presentation. The aim of the initiative is to educate and support young graduates in the fields of fashion and textile design in tailor-made workshops in the areas of sustainability, craftsmanship and innovation.
The winners of the second year were: Chelsea Jean Lamm (AMD), Nanyi Li (Burg Giebichenstein, Halle University of Art and Design), Nari Haase (Burg Giebichenstein, Halle University of Art and Design), Ronja Beckmann (Munich University of Applied Sciences), Sofia Hermens Fernandes (Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp) and Tatjana Haupt (Institut Francais de la Mode), who came together in Berlin in April 2023 for a week of workshops and seminars. In July, they deepened their knowledge at The King's Foundation's education center, where they learned how to work with different materials and traditional crafts, such as basket weaving or weaving.
In a workshop with British designer Patrick McDowell, the participants gained insights into sustainable fiber selection for the development of innovative and traditional structures. Their designs were then realized in collaboration with the Lenzing company, which provided the young designers with materials and fabrics.
In addition to the designs of the second-year graduates, the winners of the third year were also announced during the exhibition at DER BERLINER SALON, thus ushering in the third round of FASHION x CRAFT.
Further information on the winners of the third year can be found HERE and on the project HERE.
