With a comprehensive analysis of key topics such as the industry's economic significance, sustainability, and digital innovation, the study reveals the current state of the German fashion industry and how market conditions and consumer trends are changing. Following the publication of the first FCG Status of German Fashion study in 2021, this new study focuses particularly on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the industry and its significant influence on sustainability.

Oxford Economics conducted quantitative research analyzing the economic weight of the fashion industry and other direct impacts on the sector. The Fashion Council Germany supplemented this by interviewing key industry experts about the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, and long-term challenges facing the fashion industry. All the information and findings are summarized in a concluding chapter, which also includes recommendations and a conclusion.

The study combines quantitative and qualitative analyses and is supplemented by white papers from leading fashion companies, offering insights into technology, sustainability, and retail. It also addresses the importance of technological innovations and the need for greater sustainability and transparency in the fashion industry. Interviewees include experts who either work directly in the fashion industry or at key interfaces with it. Renowned companies such as Armedangels, Burda Verlag, Hugo Boss, KaDeWe, and OTTO are represented. Peek & Cloppenburg BV & Co. KG, Düsseldorf. The study is aimed at policymakers, the fashion industry, and the interested public, and provides detailed data on the current situation and future prospects of the German fashion industry.

A spokesperson for the software company Certilogo explains: “ We are proud to contribute a white paper to the study, which demonstrates that digital product passports not only promote technological advancements but also fundamental changes in the fashion industry. This initiative is an important step towards a more sustainable and transparent future and underscores our commitment to supporting brands in integrating innovations.” The study also examines the impact of current global challenges on consumer behavior. Gernot Lenz, CEO of Tom Tailor, emphasizes: “ Our industry is heavily influenced by consumer emotions, which is particularly evident in times of global conflict. These uncertainties have a direct impact on consumer behavior and are often reflected in a reluctance to buy.”
