As part of Berlin Fashion Week in July 2024, the Fashion Council Germany successfully implemented its new talk format "METAMORPHOSIS - dialogues about change" powered by eBay in partnership with Vogue Business. Under the overarching theme of circularity, more than 250 participants and over 30 international speakers from the fashion industry gathered in the CUPRA City Garage at Tacheles to discuss the topic of circularity. Industry experts, press representatives as well as young professionals and interested parties in the fashion industry were able to take part. The aim of the talk format is to stimulate exchange in order to show the various facets and necessary changes in the fashion industry, as well as to create discussion spaces for current topics. New legislation and human rights as well as innovative approaches to trade and expectations of end consumers regarding the communication of fashion brands were discussed.
The first day was all about design and highlighted sustainable approaches in fashion as well as measures to protect human and labor rights in the supply chain. On the second day, Michele Casucci, CEO of the technology start-up Certilogo, gave insights into the possibilities of the digital product passport, which makes the supply chain of a product visible and can serve as a catalyst for change. The overarching trend towards augmented reality and artificial intelligence dominated the day's panels and highlighted the opportunities and challenges of technology for the fashion industry. On the last day, the talks under the main theme of community evaluated how CSR communication and storytelling can be used by brands to communicate authentically to end consumers or how the international networking of the global fashion industry is a multiplier for creativity and inclusion.
Scott Lipinski, CEO of the FCG, and Kirsty Keoghan, Global General Manager Fashion at eBay, gave an outlook on the possibilities of a sustainable fashion industry in their closing note.
In addition to Ann Claes, who acts as content director, the panelists included Dilys Williams (Centre for Sustainable Fashion), Dries Vriesacker (ENFNTS TERRIBLES), Herbert Hofmann (Highsnobiety), Janina Lin Otto (Holistic Foundation), Kerstin Weng (VOGUE Germany), Kirsty McGregor (Vogue Business), Liz Ricketts (The Or Foundation), Maliha Shoaib (Vogue Business), Harald Sipple (Reserve-Retail), Marjorie Hernandez (LUKSO) and Nina Knaudt (Rianna + Nina).
On the evening of the talk days, the speakers' exchange continued during a dinner in the intimate atmosphere of the JOSEPH and Anna & Paul restaurants. In the inviting and modern atmosphere of the CUPRA CITY Garage, which opened in 2022, visitors were able to enjoy a culinary offering from Gragger bread, Vöslauer mineral water, Elephant Bay and 1664 Blanc.
For those interested who were unable to see the talks live, they are now available On Demand HERE.
