6 Sept 2022
At the opening of the BERLINER SALON in its new location, the Kulturforum, the eight young designers from the FASHION X CRAFT funding project from the Fashion Council Germany in partnership with the Swarovski Foundation and The Prince's Foundation presented their final works in a joint group exhibition. In total, the young designers are showing eight physical and one animated looks, which can be seen in the BERLINER SALON until Wednesday, September 7, 2022. All group exhibitions of the BERLINER SALON in the Kulturforum were curated by Christiane Arp, Chairwoman of the Fashion Council Germany.
The nine looks of the FASHION X CRAFT designers are by Alexis Mersmann, Jana Heinemann (Impari), Julia Ballardt & Nico Verhaegen (Milk of Lime), Mirjam von Mengerhausen, Philip Kofi Wagner, Svea Beckedorf and Taskin Goec (Masion Taskin). For their looks, they were provided with traditional tartan in three different patterns from the tartan weaving mill The House of Edgar, which they then processed or incorporated into their individual designs. The House of Edgar is a Scotland-based manufacturer of high-quality Highland clothing and a long-standing partner of The Prince's Foundation, which is also based in Scotland.
The joint exhibition at the BERLINER SALON also serves as the final presentation of the first year of the FASHION X CRAFT project. In recent months, the young designers have taken part in various workshops and webinars in Berlin and England. In Highgrove, Gloucestershire, England, they took part in intensive workshops at the new educational facility of The Prince's Foundation, part of the estate of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. During the three weeks, they were trained in basket weaving, decorative plaster work and traditional wood carving, among other things. This gave them a better understanding of traditional craftsmanship and enabled them to further develop their creativity, which they can transfer into their designs in the future.
After presenting their final projects, the designers will participate as young experts in the FASHION ZUKUNFT conference, which the Fashion Council Germany is organizing together with The Prince's Foundation in Dumfries House, Scotland at the end of October. The aim of the conference is to facilitate an exchange between generations between students, young designers and industry experts from Germany and Great Britain.
The application phase for the second round of FASHION X CRAFT is expected to start at the beginning of October this year. The future winners will again spend a three-week stay in Highgrove, England.
