FCG: How are you doing in the current crisis?
Odeeh: We are agitated, alert, and hopeful, with occasional pauses. We feel powerless regarding the overall situation—which brings a certain degree of serenity. At the same time, we are powerful in shaping future ideas. All in all: mixed feelings!
FCG: What's the worst thing for you right now?
Odeeh: Italy is closed! Our most important fabric partners are located there, which is why we can't continue working on or producing the new collection. Our retailers are also suffering. Everything is essentially blocked; the incredible interconnectedness of the industry is becoming very clear right now.
FCG: How are you spending your quarantine?
Odeeh: We cook, read, listen to music, sleep, and there's Netflix. Because we live in the countryside, we can always go out into the garden and nature. We're grateful for that. We shouldn't forget that our quarantine problems are actually first-world problems. Besides, we're working! Visibly handicapped and slower, but as best we can. We're focusing on proceeding cautiously, reacting quickly, and acting responsibly with our partners and our team.
FCG: What long-term impact will Corona have on the fashion industry?
Odeeh: Will things really change drastically? In the long term, we're not so sure. A slowdown will certainly occur initially, by necessity. But we shouldn't oversimplify what comes "afterwards." Not everything will become better, more sustainable, and fairer; that's unrealistic. But hopefully, some things will.
FCG: What do you currently wish for?
Odeeh: That we all get through this together and maintain our positive energy. Our craft helps us with that: creativity. Thinking outside the box and still managing – we need it now more than ever.
