Together with McKinsey & Company, The Business of Fashion, and ICON, the Fashion Council Germany presented the renowned report "The State of Fashion 2020" at the Hotel ZOO in Berlin. "The State of Fashion" is published annually by McKinsey & Company and The Business of Fashion and provides an overview of developments and trends in the international fashion industry. The FCG initiated the event to apply the findings and forecasts to the German market.

Dr. Achim Berg (Senior Partner and Global Leader of McKinsey & Company's Apparel, Fashion and Luxury Group) predicts for the German market: "We have been seeing for some time now that it is becoming increasingly difficult for mid-sized companies to survive in the fashion industry in Germany. Brands that are aging and no longer meet customer demands are among the companies that most frequently lose value. It has never been easier for German customers to find alternatives to traditional clothing brands."

Following the welcoming remarks by Mandie Bienek, who has been Chairwoman of the FCG Board since January, Mayor and Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises Ramona Pop emphasized the creative relevance of Berlin in her address: “Berlin stands for freedom, creativity, and innovation. As a cosmopolitan and culturally diverse metropolis, the capital attracts creative minds and talent from all over the world. Berlin’s fashion scene is a barometer for ideas and innovative concepts. Companies that are courageous and visionary, take a step-by-step approach, and pay attention to sustainability are well-positioned for the future.”

Dr. Achim Berg and Nick Blunden then engaged in a lively discussion about the implications of the report's findings for the German fashion market in the subsequent panel discussion with Christiane Arp (VOGUE Germany), Inga Griese (ICON) and Javier Goyeneche (Ecoalf).
